Dak Prescott apparently suffered an injury in Week 17; With the playoffs looming, should the Cowboys rest him for the final game of the season?
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott may have overextended his knee Dallas Thursday night’s victory over the Tennessee Titans.
During an appearance on Friday on 105.3 The Fan, the Cowboys owner Jerry Jones discussed Prescott’s case. When asked about the injury, Jones said:
“He’s in good shape. He might have over-stretched a little bit. We were checking on the sideline and knew he was going to be good.”
Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy also spoke about the injury on Friday.

Should the Cowboys Dak Prescott rest?
While it’s good news for Dallas that Prescott’s injury isn’t a concern, perhaps they should rest him for the final game of the season rather than risk more damage.
The Cowboys, ranked fifth in the NFC, have already sealed their playoff spot.
Prescott’s knee injury is not his first this season. He suffered a thumb injury in Week 1 and will return to the field in Week 7.
In Prescott’s absence, the Cowboys turned to quarterback Cooper Rush, who made his season debut in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Rush has won four of the five games he has started this season. After defeating the Bengals in Week 2, the New York Giants and the Washington and Los Angeles Rams leaders were defeated. His only loss came against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Rush threw for 956 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions in the games he started. In total, he has 1,051 rushing yards on the season.
If the Cowboys decide to rest Prescott, they have a proven backup Rush to take over.
Despite not having five games, Prescott has recorded 2,732 yards (17 total) and 22 touchdowns and has the second highest completion percentage at 69.2 percent. Prescott also averages 7.7 yards per pass, sixth overall.
The Cowboys have advanced to the playoffs three times since Prescott became the starting quarterback in 2016, with his fourth trip coming. In 2016, they lost to the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round. They returned to the postseason in 2018, where they defeated the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card Round before losing again in the Divisional Round, this time to the Los Angeles Rams. In 2021, the Cowboys returned to the playoffs but were defeated by the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card Round.
While the Dallas Cowboys don’t have much playoff success with Dak Prescott, they need him if they hope to advance further than they have in previous seasons, and while the Cooper Rush has proven he can win, Prescott is the better option for Dallas. . Perhaps sitting with him in the final game of the season isn’t such a bad idea; They need him to be healthy and don’t want to risk further injuries.
